Overview



The multi-level categories structure is the easy way to manage a large number of contents. Every web site has a root category users could add sub categories under the root. Root category is created at the same time was created at the site.

DotNetAge offers a publishing manager to manage categories and articles visually. Administrators or web owner could find the publishing manager in "SiteTools->Console->Content->Publishing".

On the left of the publiching manage is the category navigation view the right is result view.

Add category



At first you need to select a parent category then click the "Add sub category" button on the toolbar :

The following list is the available data fields for category:

  • Title-The title of the category that display on category map path and category tree.
  • Allow anonymous - Allow the anonymous can post comments to article.
  • Image - Display the image on the left of the category.
  • Description - The description of the category.

Move category and article list



Drag and drop selected category on the navigation view to other category could be change the category's relationship.

When a category node selected the publishing manager will find the first 10 articles and display on the result view. If the category has over 10 articles you could scroll the result view and load the next 10 articles.

Category view



Category is a kind of web resource in DotNetAge , so each of them has their own url that is the category permalink. The category permalink generated by DotNetAge it is SEO , human readable url. The permalink format looks like:

http://[domain-name]/publishing/[website-name]/category/subcategory1/.../subcategory n

The category permalink refers to the category view:

category_view

As you see the users could subscript the category changes (new articles) by email, rss or atom.

Suggest usage



Establish a reasonable category structure is an important part of content management.When a category contains more then 100 articles/posts you should create a new sub category to separate the articles. It may be helpful for your growing up contents.
